Born in Nazaré da Mata, Pernambuco, January 21, 1900 and died in São Paulo, on August 9, 1973. Entered the history as an entrepreneur, engineer and Brazilian politician, founder of the Votorantim Group. José Ermírio was from a family of farmers in Pernambuco, studied engineering at the prestigious Colorado School of Mines in Golden, United States. Back in Brazil, he worked in a textile factory in São Paulo, married the daughter of the owner and then bought shares of this company and assumed its control. During his tenure the company grew, it expanded its business into other sectors and created the powerful business group Votorantim. His son Antonio de Moraes Ermírio not only inherited his father's fortune, but the ability to work and entrepreneurship, becoming another Brazilian giant. Today the group has 28 thousand employees in 10 different businesses, such as weaving cement, chemicals, and telecommunications.
