WAR OF CANUDOS

The War of Canudos occurred in Bahia, the Northeast hinterland. Ali ruled the hunger and misery. In this scene of desolation, the presence of the government only represented the burden of collecting tax, with little or no state assistance to help the needy. Against this background there emerged a popular caudillo (Director Antonio) who rebelled against the state and its religious charisma managed to round up a crowd of followers to your cause.
No government of this world can satisfy the popular mood, but some governments are even worse, can be tyrants with their subjects. This led to Antonio Conselheiro and their followers to confront the government of Bahia and the Federal Government. I do not believe in violent riots and revolutions as a method of establishing justice, but it is clear that the state used force to crush a huge village of poor and wretched.(Text of the Scribe Valdemir Mota de Menezes)
